Board of Director
Carlos Ortiz moved to Iowa at a young age and discovered his love for the outdoors. He grew up in Tama and found himself in the outdoors every chance he had. He graduated from South Tame High School and shortly after enlisted in the Marines as an Infantryman. He was deployed to Iraq, Okinawa and Guam. During his deployment to Iraq as a fire team leader he was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart. Other awards during service include: Expert Marksmanship Badge, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He also went to a special school called the Assault-man’s course that specialized in breaching, demolition and rocket fire.
After retiring out of the Marines he eventually found his way back home to Iowa where he met his wife Whitney and had two amazing children, Dominic 12, Eliza 8. Being able to show his children the outdoors coupled with his love for the outdoors has opened his eyes to giving back to heroes and children. Carlos wants to share his knowledge and passion that he has with others because hunting and fishing offer him the most peace of mind.
